Our Sunday Worship
Our congregation is composed of people of all ages from all economic and ethnic groups. Young families are well represented. We aim to make our worship style a balance between reverence, prayerfulness, and relaxed simplicity.
Our main weekly worship - the Parish Eucharist - starts at 9.30 a.m. every Sunday morning. It is a sung Parish Eucharist, vestments are worn by the celebrant and the sacrament is reserved. The Liturgy used is 'Common Worship: Order One'. Older children are invited to be candle bearers and cross holder at the beginning and end of the service (joining Junior Church activities in between), and for all-age services their ceremonial role is extended and children generally are more involved throughout.
After the start of the service there is Junior Church, or Sunday School for children in the adjoining church hall until the Communion, when they return to receive a blessing. We also have periodic 'all-age' services when children stay in church throughout (see the Calendar for notice of these). Children of age 8 and above are allowed to receive Communion after a period of preparation and having formally received First Communion
After the service ends all are welcomed to stay and share coffee/tea and biscuits at the back of church.
Midweek Holy Communion is celebrated on Wednesdays at 1.15pm. This is held in the chancel of the church, close to the altar, lasts for just half an hour, and is followed by a simple lunch for any who can stay.
Morning Prayer is said daily at 8am in the Lady Chapel, from Tuesday to Friday, and at 9.30am on Saturday. This, too, lasts for just half an hour.
